| The Nationals beat the Cubs 3-2 for the 2nd straight day, but this time it only takes the regulation 9 innings instead of 15. It was a typical performance for Nats starter Shawn Hill - he has a knack for pitching well for the first 4-5 innings of the game, then falling apart quickly in the 5th or 6th. This time, he held a 1-0 lead until the 6th when he gave up a Derrek Lee double followed by an Aramis Ramirez homer with one out. He would get the next 2 outs, but give way to Ray King for the 7th. King would retire the Cubs in order and would get the win after the Nats score 2 runs to take the lead back in the 8th. The Nats scored 2 runs on 5 straight singles - Jack Wilson (who was caught stealing), Robert Fick, Felipe Lopez, Ryan Langerhans, and finally Ryan Zimmerman who knocked in the 2 runs. Chad Cordero would pitch the 9th for his 9th save. I should also mention how the Nats scored their first run of the game. Pitcher Shawn Hill led off the inning and was hit by a pitch. Felipe Lopez would attempt the hit and run, but miss the pitch. Hill would not only steal 2nd on a 1-12 chance, but would advance to third when Michael Barrett overthrew the ball. Lopez would then hit a deep fly to score Hill, giving the Nats a run without a hit...and a stolen base from a pitcher! |

Ryan Zimmerman had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Washington Nationals beat the
Chicago (NL) Cubs by a score of 3 to 2.
Ray King(2-0) came through for Manny Acta with an excellent relief stint. No
one got on base in his perfect 1 inning. Chicago (NL) threatened in the 9th
but Washington was able to put down the rally.
King got help from Chad Cordero who was credited with his 9th save. Angel
Guzman(0-1) ended up with the loss. He allowed 6 hits and 2 walks in 7 and
1/3 innings.
