| This one looked like it was going to be an easy win for the Twins, but as they say "that's why they play the games". Julian Tavarez actually goes toe-to-toe with Johan Santana in a pitcher's duel, pitching 6 innings of shutout ball before tiring in the 7th and giving up 2 runs to allow the Twins to tie the game. The Sox had gotten on the board off Santana in the 4th thanks to a David Ortiz homer, a Manny Ramirez triple, and a JD Drew single. Hideki Okajima deserves the credit for keeping the game tied at 2 - he entered the game in relief of Tavarez with runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs, and after walking the bases loaded he induced a home to first double play followed by a fly out to end the inning. Santana would pitch into the 10th, but would give way with one out after throwing 125 pitches and allowing singles to Jason Varitek and Dustin Pedroia. Juan Rincon would enter in relief, and Julio Lugo would greet him with a 3-run homer! The 3-run lead was enough for Jonathan Papelbon, who pitched the bottom of the 10th for his 13th save. |

to 2.
The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Boston won the game in the

one-base hit. Wily Mo Pena was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.
Dustin Pedroia then laced a base-hit. Julio Lugo followed and he clubbed a
three-run home run (his 2nd of the season). Boston finished with 11 hits in
the victory.
The victory was credited to Brendan Donnelly(2-0) who went 1 inning, allowing
no runs. Donnelly was helped out by Jonathan Papelbon who recorded his 13th
