| The Nationals bullpen gets overworked for the 2nd time in 4 days, this time a 15 inning affair after an 18 inning marathon on the 1st. However, they seem up to the challenge as they contribute 9 innings of scoreless relief until the Nats finally push across a run in the 15th which would be good enough for the 3-2 win. The Nats bullpen line for the 2 games combined: 21 2/3 IP, 10 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 17 K. Jesus Colome got the win in both games with 5 innings of work total, while Ryan Wagner pitched 6 innings in the two games combined and allowed just one hit! The Nats scored the winning run after a Mike Restovich leadoff double. Brian Schneider would attempt a bunt, but Cubs pitcher Rocky Cherry would misplay it. Restovich would score and Schneider would end up 2nd. That was it would take, as the newly rejuvenated Chad Cordero went 1-2-3 for the save in the bottom of the inning. Credit also goes to Ronnie Belliard, whose 9th inning leadoff homer tied the game at 2 and enabled the Nats to have a chance at the eventual extra innings victory. |
