It takes a 9th inning comeback, but the Nats prevent the sweep in the final game of a 4 game set with the Braves. This one was knotted at 1 for most of the game until the Braves pushed across a run in the 8th on 3 singles. The Nats would fail to score in the 8th, but would rally in the bottom of the 9th. Tony Batista led off the inning by grounding out, but pinch hittter Dmitri Young got the rally started with a single to right. Since Young is a fat load, I brought in Ryan Langerhans to pinch run. Nook Logan was up next and he would single to move Langerhans to 3rd (and Logan would move to 2nd on the throw to 3rd). Cristian Guzman would pinch hit in the pitchers spot, but would be intentionally walked to load the bases. Felipe Lopez would ground to the pitcher Tyler Yates, and he would rifle a throw home to get to lead runner for the 2nd out. That leaves it up to Ronnie Belliard, but Yates takes the pressure off him by uncorking a wild pitch, allowing the tying run to score. Belliard would then be intentionally walked since first is open, but Ryan Zimmerman would make the Braves pay with a single to score Guzman with the winning run!

With the crowd on their collective feet, screaming at the top of their lungs,
Washington Nationals rallied to top Atlanta Braves by the score of 3 to
2.

Washington scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing
3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Dmitri Young began the rally when he
lashed a single. Nook Logan was next and he smacked a single. Logan took
second on the throw. Cristian Guzman then was walked intentionally to load
the bases. One out later, Tyler Yates came up and he let a pitch get away
from him knocking in a run. Ronnie Belliard stepped into the box and was
walked intentionally to load the bases. Ryan Zimmerman added to the outburst
and delivered a one-base hit giving Washington the win and sending the home
town fans into a frenzy. Washington finished with 8 hits in the victory.

Jesus Colome(3-3) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Yates(0-1)
was the loser in relief. 'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,'
Zimmerman noted. 'It was looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just
kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades! And it was great to see
the crowd go crazy there at the end!'
