The Red Sox shellack the Tigers, getting a combined shutout from their pair of Japanese imports. Daisuke Matsuzaka pitches 8 innings of shutout ball, but a high pitch count prevents him from finishing it out. The Red Sox offense was also firing away, with 5 guys with 2 hits or more. The big sluggers came through in the 5th, when the Sox opened up a 1-0 game with a David Ortiz bases loaded sac fly and a Manny Ramirez 3 run homer. Then in the 8th, the Sox hitters piled on 6 more runs off a pathetic Tigers pitching staff. Check out the embarasment for yourself:

In a one-sided affair the Boston Red Sox batters pounded the Detroit Tigers
pitchers for 11 runs while Daisuke Matsuzaka(5-1), with relief help from
Hideki Okajima, blanked Detroit.

Boston set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring a single run.
That was all Matsuzaka needed. Overall Boston out-hit Detroit 12 to 6.

Nate Robertson(2-3) took the loss. He pitched 7 and 1/3 innings and
surrendered 9 hits and 5 walks.
