The Nationals pull out the win thanks to 4 hit days from both Nook Logan and Dmitri Young. Logan contributed 4 singles, 2 stolen bases and scored twice on the day, while Young was just a triple shy of the cycle and knocked in all but one of the 5 Nats runs. John Lannan gets his major league win with 6 innings and 3 runs allowed, while Saul Rivera gets his first save of the year.

WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Ty Wigginton robbed Ryan Zimmerman of a base hit.
Dmitri Young had 4 hits and 4 RBI at Minute Maid Field as the Washington
Nationals beat the Houston Astros by the count of 5 to 3.
Young had a big day against Houston. He doubled which scored a run in the 1st
inning, lined a base-hit plating a run in the 3rd inning, laced a base-knock
in the 6th inning and smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 7th of the
season) in the 9th inning. Washington had 13 hits for the game and Houston
had 6.
John Lannan(1-2) allowed 3 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory.
Lannan got help from Saul Rivera who was credited with his 1st save. Juan
Gutierrez(0-1) was charged with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 10
hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.
The Nationals pull off the 1-0 victory in a surprising pitchers duel between Mike Bacsik and Woody Williams. Williams would give up the only blemish on an otherwise scoreless day, a solo home run by Wily Mo Pena. Pena has really lit it up since joining the Nationals, hitting at a .625 pace. The Astros almost tie it when the last batter of the game goes deep to right, but Austin Kearns grabs it at the wall and the Nats come away with the win. The Nats are 5-1 in 1-0 games this season.

This one worked out just like it was scripted. The Red Sox enter the 9th tied at 3, then get back-to-back singles from Coco Crisp and Eric Hinske after one out. Manny Ramirez, who had the day off, pinch hits for Julio Lugo and cracks a 3 run home run. Jonathan Papelbon gets his 38th save with a 1-2-3 9th.

Wandy Rodriguez whiffed 11 batters at Minute Maid Field as the Houston Astros
beat the Washington Nationals 11 to 4.
Rodriguez(8-8) pitched well enough to earn the win. He was reached for 9 hits
and 4 walks in 7 innings and was touched for 2 homeruns. Both teams totaled
10 hits on the night.
Joel Hanrahan(2-1) was hit with the loss. Houston scored big getting 6 runs
off him in 5 innings. Cecil Cooper was asked about the performance of
Rodriguez, 'He had his good stuff out there tonight. The fans really get
into it when the strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him
even more adrenalin.'
The Red Sox score just 1 run against Tampa for the 2nd straight day, but this time it's enough for the win thanks to an absolute gem of a game from Jon Lester. Lester goes 8, allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 10. Jonathan Papelbon pitches a 1-2-3 9th for his 37th run. Andy Sonnanstine pitched ok for the Devil Rays despite taking the loss. His one mistake was a ball that Jason Varitek deposited in the seats to start the 5th.

Jon Lester struck out 10 batters as the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay
Devil Rays by a score of 1 to 0.
Lester(2-1) was tremendous on the mound for Boston. He allowed just 3 hits
and 1 walk in 8 innings lowering his ERA to 3.22. Jonathan Papelbon was
great in relief and recorded his 37th save.
Andy Sonnanstine(3-8) was charged with the loss. 'Everything felt great'
Lester said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody
tonight.'
The Nationals come up on the wrong end of a back-and-forth battle with the Astros. The Nats came out swinging early, scoring 4 runs on 7 hits over the first 3 innings. Unfortunately, the Astros would put up 5 in the bottom of the 4th, including a 3-run homer from Eric Munson. The Nats would tie it in the top of the 5th, but the Astros would stake their way to an 8-5 lead. The Nats would erase that thanks to a 3-run home run from Wily Mo Pena in the 7th, but the Astros would load the bases without registering an out in the bottom of the 9th before Ty Wigginton ended it with a single up the middle.

The Nats were cruising along with a 5-1 lead when Shawn Hill started to tire in the 6th. The Mets would score 4 runs in the inning, 2 before Hill left and 2 on a Lastings Milledge single allowed by Ray King, although all 4 are charged to Hill. The Nats would come back though with 2 in the bottom of the 7th, with D'Angelo Jimenez and Dmitri Young getting the RBI's on singles. The Mets come back with one off Jon Rauch in the top of the 8th, but Chad Cordero nails down the 9th for his 26th save. |

Shortstop Jose Reyes had 2 base hits at RFK STADIUM where the New York (NL)
Mets beat the Washington Nationals by the score of 3 to 2.
New York (NL) came up with 1 run in the top of the 7th inning. Despite
losing, Washington out-hit New York (NL) 9 to 5. Oliver Perez(9-5) was the
winner allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Perez got help from Billy Wagner who
earned his 29th save. The losing pitcher was John Lannan(0-2). He
surrendered 4 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings.
The Red Sox continue their winning ways with their 8th straight win. Angels starter Jered Weaver's downfall in this one was the longball, as he gave up a 2 run homer to Julio Lugo and a solo shot to Big Papi in the 3rd, then was chased from the game when Kevin Youkilis went deep with 2 on in the 4th. The Sox would add 2 runs in the 7th and cruise to the 8-3 win. Curt Schilling reaches double digit wins, something he did not accomplish in the real 2007 season.
