Jason Bergmann gets his first win of the year with an impressive 10 strikeout performance to take the rubber game from the Brewers and help the Nats finish off a 7-2 road trip. Deuces were wild in the 2nd for the Nats...they got 2 runs in the 2nd inning off 2 hits, 2 walks and also benefited from 2 wild pitches from old friend Claudio Vargas. Vargas also committed an error in the inning. The Brewers would get one back in the bottom of the inning, but the Nats would maintain the lead for the entire game and would get an insurance run in the 7th off a Felipe Lopez double with Ryan Langerhans on base. Jon Rauch would get the save in place of usual closer Chad Cordero, who is on bereavement leave.

Jason Bergmann racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts as the
Washington Nationals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers by a score of 3 to 1 at
Miller Park.

Bergmann(1-3) looked very much in control throughout the day. He was stingy on
the mound, allowing just 5 hits and no walks in 7 and 2/3 innings lowering
his ERA from 4.79 to 4.15. Jon Rauch was perfect in relief and gained credit
for his 3rd save.

Claudio Vargas(2-3) took the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 3 hits in 6 innings.
Bergmann didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he
had 10 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a
decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty
good, isn't it?'
