This one was basically 2 separate games. In the first four innings, the Orioles smacked around Nats starter Mike Bacsik, getting 4 runs off 7 hits. At the same time, O's starter Jeremy Guthrie was holding the Nats hitless. That all changed in the bottom of the 5th, when the Nats got 3 quick runs on an Austin Kearns homer, a Ryan Church double, and a Brian Schneider homer. Then in the 7th, those same 3 batters would get the rally started with a HBP, a single, and a double to be followed by a Nook Logan single and stolen base and a Ronnie Belliard pinch hit single that was misplayed by O's SS Miguel Tejada. That gave the Nats a 7-4 lead, and Jesus Colome and Chad Cordero would hold it for a hold and the save, respectively.

WEB GEMS- Bot 6th: Brian Roberts robbed Ryan Zimmerman of a base hit.

Catcher Brian Schneider hit a homerun and had 3 RBI at RFK STADIUM where the
Washington Nationals beat the Baltimore Orioles 7 to 4.

The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Schneider. He lifted one out of the park for a two run home run
(his 4th of the season) in the 5th inning, doubled scoring a run in the 7th
inning and tripled in the 8th inning. Washington banged out 9 hits on the
night.

Winston Abreu(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Chad
Cordero got the save, his 10th. Danys Baez(2-2) absorbed the loss in relief.

The Washington ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 26-17. Dave
Trembley was unhappy with his club's recent performance. 'We can't keep
losing games' he said. 'It gets to be embarrassing after a while.'
