The Red Sox start out interleague play with a 9th inning comeback and winning a game with some NL-style small ball. The Sox got into an early hole thanks to a very ineffective Daisuke Matsuzaka, who gave up 9 hits and 7 runs through 3 and 1/3, getting knocked out when Kelly Johnson and Chipper Jones both took him deep. Kyle Snyder entered with a 7-3 deficit and pitched 3 2/3 impressive innings of one hit ball, during which time the Red Sox made it 7-5 on a Mike Lowell double with 2 men on. JC Romero pitched a scoreless 8th and the Sox loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, but JD Drew grounded to short to end the inning. Joel Pineiro gave the Sox a 1-2-3 9th and then the rally started. Lowell single, Varitek walk, Crisp fielder's choice followed by a steal, and then Julio Lugo comes through with a single to score 2 runs and tie the game! This was Lugo's first game in the 9 hole...I figured it didn't make sense for a .350+ hitter to be hitting 9th and a sub-.200 hitter to be hitting leadoff, so I swapped Lugo and Pedroia about a month earlier than the real 2007 Sox did. Of course, the real 2007 Dustin Pedroia started out much more slowly, hitting around .250 in mid-May.

Back to the action...Lugo gets caught trying to steal 2nd for the 2nd out, but the aforementioned Pedroia walks. Youk gets an infield single which is misplayed to put runners on 2nd and 3rd for Big Papi, who is intentionally walked. That loads them for Manny, but he grounds out to send us to extra frames.

Fast forward to the bottom of the 11th...Coco Crisp leads off with a walk, the 8th of the game for the Sox hitters. Julio Lugo again comes through, this time with a single to send Coco to 3rd. So with a good bunter up in Pedroia and a fast runner on third in Crisp, should I dare try the squeeze play? I do, and Pedroia lays it down to perfection to score Crisp with the game winner!
