| The Red Sox put up double digits in runs on the Tigers for the 2nd time in this series, this time in game 1 of a doubleheader. Julian Tavarez contributes another solid start for the win - 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K. One run was an Ivan Rodriguez home run to lead off the 7th, a sign that 6 IP was enough for Julian. The Sox had a strange distribution of offense in this one - the top 4 hitters in the order were a combined 0 for 13, while the 5 through 9 hitters were 11 for 20. Eric Hinske was a home run shy of the cycle in a 4 for 4, 3 RBI day; Mike Lowell was 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 4 RBI; and Dougie went deep with a 3 run homer in the 7th. Even with 0-fer days, the big hitters contributed, as Papi and Manny both scored 2 runs. Papi reached on a walk and an error and scored both times, while Manny did it on a walk and an HBP. Kevin Youkilis could have had 4 runs scored in this one and added another 2 to Lowell's RBI total, but he was thrown out twice at home - once from third on what would have been a sac fly, once on a Lowell double where Youk tried to score all the way from first. |

WEB GEMS- Bot 8th: Placido Polanco robbed Doug Mirabelli of a base hit.
Eric Hinske had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Detroit
Tigers by the score of 10 to 5 at Fenway Park.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Hinske. He tripled bringing in two baserunners in the 1st
inning, smacked a single in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 5th inning and
doubled which plated a run in the 8th inning. Boston banged out 11 hits on
the afternoon.
Julian Tavarez(4-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Zach Miner(0-1) was the loser. He got hit pretty hard,
allowing 7 hits and 4 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.
