I feel fortunate that the Nats even got 2 runs off Johan Santana, who gets his 8th win of the year. After allowing 2 runs in the 7th, Santana retired the last 10 men he faced, including 5 consecutive strikeouts to end the game and bring his total to 10 for the day. Levale Speigner held his own by allowing just 3 hits in his 6 innings of work, but unfortunately for him the 3 hits were in a row and the third one cleared the fence off Joe Mauer's bat.

Johan Santana whiffed 10 batters as the Minnesota Twins defeated the
Washington Nationals by the score of 4 to 2 at Metrodome.

Santana(8-2) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Washington
hitters. He allowed just 4 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Washington went
down without a fight in the 9th.

Levale Speigner(2-5) was the losing pitcher. Santana was obviously very
pleased with his performance in the aftermath of the game, 'It was just one
of those games where everything worked. My arm felt great, heck, I could
have pitched another two or three innings. I only hope that I can do it
again next time out!'
