| The Red Sox shut down the A's with an impressive pitching performance for the 2nd straight day, this time from Tim Wakefield. Wake doesn't get the shutout like Dice-K did a day earlier as the A's slide across a run in the 7th, but that would be the only run they would get in the game. Meanwhile, the Sox were firing early, batting around and scoring 4 runs in the 1st. Everyone in the Sox lineup except Doug Mirabelli got a hit in the game. Wakefield earns his 7th win of the season, which puts him on pace for 20 but still has him 3 behind team (and league) leader Josh Beckett's 10. |

Shortstop Julio Lugo had 2 base hits as the Boston Red Sox defeated the
Oakland Athletics by the score of 8 to 1 at McAfee Coliseum.
Boston claimed the early lead in the first inning scoring 4 runners on 4 hits.
The early run support proved sufficient for Tim Wakefield(7-2) and Boston.
That was all the run support Wakefield required. Oakland was out-hit by
Boston, 10 hits to 5.
Joe Kennedy(5-3) was the loser. He allowed 8 hits and 4 walks in 4 and 2/3
innings.
