A classic sunday night Red Sox-Yankees duel. Josh Beckett was rather ineffective, walking 4 over 6 innings. 3 of those 4 walks were in the 2nd inning, when Beckett got the 1st out then walked both Jorge Posada and Hideki Matsui. Robinson Cano singled to load the bases, and Beckett ends up walking Josh Phelps and walking in a run before striking out Melky Cabrera and inducing a Johnny Damon ground out to end the inning. The one run would be the difference in the game until the 6th, when Yankee starter Andy Pettitte tired and walked Manny before allowing consecutive singles to Kevin Youkilis and Mike Lowell to load the bases. Pettitte would be pulled in favor of Luis Vizcaino, who would strike out Jason Varitek for the 1st out but would allow an RBI ground out to Wily Mo Pena to tie the game. He then walked Coco Crisp to re-load the bases, and then walked Julio Lugo to walk in the go-ahead run. Beckett got pulled after 6 and 117 pitches, but he was now in line for the win rather than the loss. The Sox bullpen holds off the Yankee hitters for the final 3 innings, and it's win #10 for Beckett, save #17 for Papelbon, and an 8 1/2 game lead in the east as the Sox take the rubber game of the series.

Josh Beckett(10-0) and Andy Pettitte(7-2) treated the Boston fans to a fine
pitching duel at Fenway Park. The Boston Red Sox eventually emerged as
victors over the New York (AL) Yankees by the score of 2 to 1.

Beckett pitched well for Boston in their victory. He went 6 innings
surrendering 3 hits and 4 walks. Beckett got relief help from Jonathan
Papelbon who was excellent in relief and gained credit for his 17th save.
