It's going to be an all AL East ALCS as the Red Sox beat the Twins 4-1 in game 4 and are headed to a showdown with the Yankees. As I mentioned in the summary for the Yankee game, the Sox and Yanks met in my ALCS in 2001 and 2004, with the Red Sox winning in 7 games in 01 and in 5 games in 04.

The Red Sox took the lead in the 1st inning of this one and never let go. They got the first run thanks to a Manny Ramirez triple following a Dustin Pedroia walk. The walk was an uncharacteristic problem for Twins starter Johan Santana in this game, as he walked 6 and was out of the game before the 5th inning was complete. The Sox added another run in the 6th on a Julio Lugo single after a Jacoby Ellsbury pinch hit walk and single. The Twins pulled within a run in the 7th on a Michael Cuddyer solo home run, but the Sox got a longball of their own in the 8th with a 2 run shot from Ellsbury that put them up by 3 runs. Papelbon enters in the 9th and it's 1-2-3, 3rd save of the series and the Sox are going to the ALCS!

The series will begin October 12th in Fenway Park, with Daisuke Matsuzaka going for the Red Sox against Chien-Ming Wang of the Yankees. The winner of the ALCS will have home field in the World Series thanks to the AL's All-Star Game win.
