October 7, 2007: Yankees 5 Angels 3 (Yankees lead series, 2-1)

The Yankees are a win away from an ALCS appearance after a 5-3 win in game 3 of their ALDS series with the Angels. Clemens allows 3 unearned runs on a Corey Kotchman homer, unearned because it came with 2 outs in an inning where an A-Rod error should have been the third out. That tied it at 3, but the Yankees took the lead in the 7th on a 2 run Derek Jeter homer off Darren Oliver. Clemens goes 8 innings, and Mariano Rivera gets the 1-2-3 9th for the save.

John Lackey will go on short rest in game 4 for the Angels. He will be opposed by Mike Mussina.

In a close game it was the New York (AL) Yankees 5, the Los Angeles(AL) Angels
3 at Yankee Stadium.
 
New York (AL) scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning.  The key
offensive moment was provided by Derek Jeter who electrified Yankee Stadium
when he blasted a two-run home run (his 1st of the season).  Mariano Rivera
was great in relief and recorded his 2nd save.  
 
Roger Clemens(1-0) went 8 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. The losing
pitcher was Jered Weaver*(0-1).  He gave up 4 runs and 10 hits in 6 and 1/3
innings.
