| It takes 14 innings, but the Red Sox take a 2 games to 1 series lead with a 6-4 win. Tim Wakefield was shaky early, but he retired 15 of 16 batters after a 4th inning Mike Cuddyer homer that put the Twins up 4-3. The Sox would tie it up in the 7th, when David Ortiz doubled and was followed by a single by Manny Ramirez. The timely RBI single was Manny's first hit of the series! From that point, the bullpens put up matching goose eggs until the 14th, when Mike Lowell singled after a Manny ground out/ JD Drew walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd, Doug Mirabelli struck out, but Coco Crisp came through with a triple to knock in the go-ahead runs. Jonathan Papelbon pitches the bottom of the 14th for his 2nd save of the series. |

David Ortiz had 4 hits and scored 3 times as the Boston Red Sox defeated the
Minnesota Twins in 14 innings 6 to 4 at Metrodome.
Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Boston was
victorious in the 14th inning. After an out was recorded, Mike Lowell keyed
the rally when he banged out a single. J.D. Drew stepped up next and he drew
a walk. Doug Mirabelli was the next batter, but he struck out. Coco Crisp
followed and he tripled scoring two baserunners. This was the kind of game
that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times.
The win went to Javier Lopez(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Lopez got
help from Jonathan Papelbon who was credited with his 2nd save. Pat
Neshek(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.
