Despite getting outhit, the Nationals ride a big 5th inning to the 4-2 win and take the lead in their best of 5 series with the Cubs. 4 doubles drove the scoring, here's how it played out.

Tim Redding worked 6 innings for the win, giving up 2 runs in the first on a Derrek Lee home run. Redding almost got touched for more runs in the bottom of the 4th, as the Cubs loaded the bases with none out. Redding got pitcher Rich Hill to line out, struck out Alfonso Soriano, then got Ryan Theriot to fly out to center to end the threat.

Jon Rauch, Luis Ayala and Chad Cordero each worked a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.

Jason Bergmann will get the ball for the Nats in game 4 against Carlos Zambrano, who will go on short rest. I found something online that said that the Cubs intended to use Zambrano on short rest in the real life 2007 NLDS. It never got to 4 games though, as the Cubs got swept by the DBacks. Still, with them facing elimination, I assume they would make the same decision.

Ronnie Belliard had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Wrigley Field as the Washington
Nationals beat the Chicago (NL) Cubs by the count of 4 to 2.

Washington delivered all the runs required in the 5th inning when they tallied
4 runs on 4 hits. The highlight belonged to Belliard who helped quiet the
crowd when he doubled scoring two baserunners. Although they lost, Chicago
(NL) did out-hit Washington 11 to 8.

The victory was credited to Tim Redding(1-0) who went 6 innings, allowing 2
runs. Chad Cordero recorded the save, his 1st. Rich Hill(0-1) was given the
loss.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Manny Acta said after the game. 'Redding did not have command
of his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'
