| Curt Schilling proves that he's still got a big game or two left in him, pitching shutout ball into the 8th and leading the Red Sox to a 2-1 win over the Rockies in game 1 of the 2007 World Series. The Sox got a run in the first thanks to a Dustin Pedroia leadoff single, a Kevin Youkilis double, and a Manny Ramirez sac fly. Manny got his 2nd RBI of the game in the 6th on his first home run of the postseason. Schilling got goose eggs on the scoreboard from the Rockies until the 8th, when Troy Tulowitzki led off the inning with a walk, then Ryan Spilborghs and Willy Tavares singled after a strike out. That got a runner in for the Rockies and put the tying runner on 2nd, but Hideki Okajima entered and got both Kaz Matsui and Matt Holliday to ground out. Okajima would also get a ground out from Todd Helton as the first batter of the 9th, then would give way to Jonathan Papelbon who got the final 2 outs for his 6th postseason save. The Rockies will hope for Ubaldo Jimenez to even up the series in his game 2 start. He will be opposed by Sox ace Josh Beckett, who allowed an uncharacteristic 5 runs in 7 innings in a June start against the Rockies in Fenway in a game that the Red Sox came back to win on a 3-run Mike Lowell home run in the 8th. |

Curt Schilling(2-0) and Jeff Francis(1-1) treated the Boston fans to a fine
pitching duel at Fenway Park. The Boston Red Sox eventually emerged as
victors over the Colorado Rockies by the score of 2 to 1.
Colorado fell behind quickly as the Boston offense came through in the first
inning scoring a single run on 2 hits. Dustin Pedroia ripped a base-knock.
Kevin Youkilis came next and he doubled. After another out, Manny Ramirez
stepped in and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. Both teams finished
the game with 5 hits.
Jonathan Papelbon earned his 6th save.
