| What was a 4-1 lead for the Rockies going into the 7th almost turned disastrous, but then the Colorado lumber company came back to take the game and punch the Rockies ticket to their first ever World Series. The 7th was when it all happened in this game. The Cubs rallied off a tired Ubaldo Jimenez, getting a triple and a double after an out was recorded. That brought Brian Fuentes out of the bullpen, who got the 2nd out of the inning but also allowed a pinch hit RBI double to Matt Murton and walked 2. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Taylor Buchholz got the call from the bullpen, but Mark Derosa greeted him with a double to score 2 more and give the Cubs a 2 run lead. Geovany Soto was intentionally walked, but Ryan Theriot lined out to end the inning. Not to be outdone, the Rockies had some tricks of their own to show in the 7th. Jeff Baker led off with a single, his first hit of the postseason. Bob Howry struck out the next 2 batters, but a Troy Tulowitzki single and a Matt Holliday walk would load the bases. This brings Cubs closer Ryan Dempster out of the bullpen to face Todd Helton, and wouldn't you know it Helton puts one over the fence for the grand slam home run to give the Rockies an 8-6 lead! In the bottom of the 8th, the Rockies put the death blow on the Cubs when Tulowitzki hit a 3 run home run. Despite a .309 batting average, pitching was ultimately the downfall of the Cubs in this NLCS, with a 6.14 team ERA. The trio of Howry, Dempster and Wuertz combined for 10 2/3 IP, 24 hits, 18 runs, 5 HR, and 5 BB with 11 K. That's a 15.19 ERA, and that's not going to get you to the World Series. There are a number of Rockies deserving of series MVP honors, with Garrett Atkins' .500 BA for the series topping Todd Helton's .458 and Matt Holliday's .455. However, you can't deny this is Helton's award when you consider his 3 home runs and 10 RBI in the series, including the grand slam that gave the Rockies the lead for good in this deciding game 6. The Rockies will get 5 days to head east, with game 1 of the World Series set for October 24th in either Boston or New York. If the Rockies and Red Sox face off, it will be the first time the real life World Series opponents meet in my replay Series. In fact, there only 2 teams (out of 12) that made my replay WS in the same year they played in the real life WS - the 2004 Red Sox and 2005 White Sox. Both teams won in real life but lost in my replay! |

Troy Tulowitzki blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Colorado Rockies
defeated the Chicago (NL) Cubs by a score of 12 to 7 at Coors
Field.
Tulowitzki had a good evening at the plate. He smashed a solo-shot out of the
park in the 1st inning, banged out a single in the 7th inning and lofted a
three-run bomb (his 2nd of the season) in the 8th inning. Colorado managed
15 hits in their victory.
The winning pitcher was Taylor Buchholz(2-1) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an
inning. Bob Howry(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief. He pitched 2/3 of an
inning giving up 2 hits and 1 walk.
'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Tulowitzki said.
'Whenever I would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
