| What started as a pitchers duel between Carlos Zambrano and Ubaldo Jimenez turns into a see-saw battle in the late innings, with the Rockies eventually winning it on a walk off triple from Brad Hawpe. The Rockies now have a 2 games to none series lead as the series heads to the friendly confines for game 3. The Rockies got on the board first in the 4th inning when Troy Tulowitzki reached base on an Aramis Ramirez error and scored on a Todd Helton single. The Cubs would tie it up in the 6th on a Derrek Lee home run, but Tulowitzki and Helton would give the Rockies the lead in the bottom of the 6th on a walk and home run, respectively. The 3-1 lead would hold until the 8th, when Jimenez got 2 quick outs and struck out Alfonso Soriano for what would have been the third out, but instead was a wild pitch where Soriano reached first. Jacque Jones singled to send Soriano to third, and at that point the Rockies go to Manny Corpas out of the bullpen. Derrek Lee walked to load the bases, and Aramis Ramirez made up for his earlier error with a double to right. Brad Hawpe had an errant throw which allowed Lee to score with the go-ahead run. The Rockies entered the 9th down 4-3, but Matt Holliday started the inning with a walk. Helton was up next but he struck out. Garret Atkins singled to send Holliday to third, and that's when Hawpe hit his triple to score both runners and give the Rockies the win. Josh Fogg gets the call for the Rockies in game 3 against NLDS MVP Ted Lilly. |

WEB GEMS- Top 8th: Matt Holliday robbed Jason Kendall of an extra base hit.
Todd Helton cracked a homer and had 3 RBI as the Colorado Rockies rallied
impressively to win in dramatic style over Chicago (NL) Cubs, 5 to
4.
Colorado won the game with a rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 3 hits.
Matt Holliday got things going when he ripped a base-knock. Helton got his
chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Garrett Atkins
then delivered a one-base hit. Brad Hawpe followed and he tripled giving
Colorado the victory as 48,582 happy fans celebrated wildly. Colorado
finished with just 6 hits in the victory.
The victory was credited to Matt Herges(2-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. The loss was charged to Ryan Dempster(0-1) in relief. He surrendered 3
hits and no walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.
'We just wouldn't give up,' Helton said. 'Much of the credit goes to our fans
- they were with us the whole way.'
