The Nationals close out the season with a weekend series in the City of Brotherly Love, and they start it out right with a 9-2 win over the Phillies. Wily Mo Pena is the offensive star for the Nats, going 3 for 3 with a home run and 4 RBI. The Phillies will need to win the next 2 games if they're going to avoid being under .500 for the season.

In the NL playoff race, the Cubs won big over Cincinnatti, while the Brewers, Astros and Mets all lost. This gives the Cubs a one game lead over the Brewers and a two game lead over the Astros for the NL Central, and gives the Brewers a one game lead over both the Astros and Mets in the wild card race. The Cubs are trying to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2001, while the Brewers have never made the playoffs in one of my replays. The Mets and Astros were both division champions in 2006.

The Washington Nationals easily topped the Philadelphia Phillies; the final
score was 9 to 2.

Wily Mo Pena was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine
day at their team's expense. He delivered a base-hit in the 2nd inning,
lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 10th of the season) in
the 3rd inning and stroked a one-base hit scoring two baserunners in the 5th
inning. Washington ended up with 13 hits for the game while Philadelphia had
9.

Tim Redding(4-4) allowed 2 runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory. Cole
Hamels(13-6) was hit with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 7 hits and 2
walks in 3 innings.
