| Carlos Beltran helps power the Mets to an 8-2 win with 2 homers and a 3 for 4 day. The Mets complete the series sweep of the Nats with the win, good thing the Nats had already clinched the division. The NL Central/wild card race got even more interesting today, as the Brewers and Cubs both lost but the Astros and Mets both won. This puts the Astros and Mets just 1 game back. I wonder what happens if there is a 4-way tie for 2 playoff spots??? The upcoming schedule for all 4 teams: MIL: 4 vs SD (interestingly enough, SD is 4 games back in the wild card race!) CHC: 1 more @ FLA, 3 @ CIN HOU: 1 more @ CIN, 3 vs ATL NYM: makeup game vs. STL, 3 vs. FLA The Cubs play the easiest opposition, but play all 4 games on the road. Should be interesting! |

Center fielder Carlos Beltran launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Philip
Humber was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete
game at Shea Stadium as the New York (NL) Mets beat the Washington Nationals
8 to 2.
Beltran provided much of the offense. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in
the 2nd inning, doubled in the 5th inning and cracked a two-run shot (his
35th of the season) in the 6th inning. New York (NL) banged out 12 hits on
the night.
Humber(2-0) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. The loss was
charged to Mike Bacsik(5-6). New York (NL) scored big getting 5 runs off him
in 4 innings.
