| The Red Sox extend their winning streak to 8 games and complete the series sweep of the Devil Rays. The Rays walk 10 Red Sox batters, making it the third straight game in which they walked 10 or more. Not hard to figure out why they're in last place, 51 games out! Mike Lowell was the big slugger for the Sox in this one, going 3 for 3 with 2 homers and 5 RBI. |

Mike Lowell launched 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Tropicana Field as the
red-hot Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 8 to 4.
Lowell had a big day at the plate. He cleared the fences for a two-run home
run in the 1st inning, cracked a solo homerun (his 20th of the season) in the
5th inning and stroked a single resulting in a run in the 6th inning. Tampa
Bay had 12 hits in the game while Boston had 8, but Boston had the more
timely hits.
Tim Wakefield(17-6) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 7 innings. The
losing pitcher was Edwin Jackson(8-12). He was touched for 3 homeruns in his
5 and 2/3 innings of work.
'I've spent a lot of time in the cage and made some adjustments and they've
paid off,' Lowell said. 'I just take the same approach up there. I don't
overanalyze it. I go up there, see the ball and try to put a good swing on
it.'
