Nats starter Shawn Hill was going for his 8th win against no losses in this game, but instead it's Jon Rauch out of the bullpen who goes to 8-0 as the Nats win it in 10. The win combined with a Mets loss puts the Nats magic number at 2.

The Phillies brought in Tom Gordon to pitch the 9th, and he was able to retire the top of the Nats order in order. They left him in for the 10th, which would prove to be a mistsake. He plunks Wily Mo Pena to lead off the inning, then walks both Ryan Church and Austin Kearns to load the bases. At this point the Phillies go to Brett Myers out of the pen, but he's no help as he allows a single to Robert Fick which brings in the winning run.

In other playoff news, the Los Angeles Angels clinched the AL East thanks to Oakland's loss today. The Mets lost, but so did the wild card leading Cubs, keeping the Mets just a half game back. The defending world champion Houston Astros are a game back in the wild card. In the AL, the Yankees have a 4 game lead over the Indians and A's in the wild card race. The Indians have a better chance of winning the division, where they are only 2 games behind the Twins.
