The Phillies try to play spoiler in the NL East race with a 6-1 win over the Nationals. Kyle Lohse had a shutout through 8 2/3 before Brian Schneider put one on the board by putting one over the fence. The top of the Phillies order was active, with 10 hits and 5 runs from the 1 through 4 hitters.

The Nats loss combined with a Mets win keeps the magic number at 4 and cuts the Nats lead to 6 1/2. The Mets are also just a half game behind the wild card leading Cubs. The Phillies are still in wild card contention, but are a longshot at 5 games back and tied for 4th in the wild card standings.
