Kyle Lohse had a shutout through 8 2/3 before Brian Schneider put one on the board by putting one over the fence. The top of the Phillies order was active, with 10 hits and 5 runs from the 1 through 4 hitters. The Nats loss combined with a Mets win keeps the magic number at 4 and cuts the Nats lead to 6 1/2. The Mets are also just a half game behind the wild card leading Cubs. The Phillies are still in wild card contention, but are a longshot at 5 games back and tied for 4th in the wild card standings. |

Kyle Lohse allowed Charlie Manual to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and Ryan Howard had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies topped
the Washington Nationals by a score of 6 to 1 at RFK STADIUM.
Lohse(7-6) put on a good performance. He didn't allow much, just 6 hits and 3
walks in 9 innings. Philadelphia managed 14 hits in their victory.
The losing pitcher was Jason Bergmann(5-7). He pitched 5 and 2/3 innings
