A pitchers duel between Clay Buchholz and Jesse Litsch, with Buchholz retiring the first 14 Blue Jays to face him before allowing a hit to Gregg Zaun in the 5th. It would be the only hit he would allow over 7 innings of work.

The Red Sox lone run came in the 5th, when Bobby Kielty led off with a double and scored on a Jacoby Ellsbury single. Ellsbury continues his torrid pace with a 3 for 4 day. Javier Lopez almost gives the game away in the 8th, allowing 2 singles to start the inning that put runners on 2nd and 3rd after a stolen base. He works his way out of that jam with a groundball to the pitcher, a strikeout, and a lineout to the second baseman. It's sort of odd that this game was just 1-0, since the Sox reached base in every inning and the Blue Jays reached base in every inning from the 5th on.

The Red Sox get their 116th win, which ties the all time record. In playoff news, an Angels win combined with an A's loss reduces the Angels magic number to 2. They are looking to be the third division winner to clinch, following the Red Sox and Rockies. The closest division races are in the AL and NL central, both with 2 game differences. In the AL Central, it's the Twins leading the Indians, and in the NL Central it's the Brewers leading the Cubs. The Cubs can fall back on their wild card lead (1 1/2 games over both the Mets and Astros), while the Indians are 4 games back of the AL wild card leading Yankees. If the Yankes win the wild card, the Red Sox would get the Central winner as their 1st round playoff opponent, given the current 7 game difference between the Angels and Twins.

Jacoby Ellsbury had 3 base hits at Rogers Centre where the phenomenal Boston
Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 1 to 0.

Clay Buchholz(3-0) put on a good performance. He was stingy on the mound,
allowing just 1 hit and 4 walks in 7 innings seeing his ERA drop from 0.64 to
0.43. Toronto threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Jonathan Papelbon recorded the save, his 45th. Jesse Litsch(6-6) suffered the
loss. He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 2/3 innings. John Gibbons was
clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's nightmare out
there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'
