The Nationals make a valiant comeback attempt, but end up falling 3 runs short. The Braves had a 10-0 lead in the 4th, but the Nats chipped it away and even got the potential winning run to the plate in the 9th but Nook Logan flies out to left to end the game. The Nats used every single bat on their bench in the loss.

The Nats loss combined with a Mets win puts the Nats 5 1/2 ahead with 15 games left to play. The Braves and Phillies are tied for third, but sit 9 games out.

The Atlanta Braves tallied 5 runs in the 4th inning and defeated the
Washington Nationals by a score of 10 to 7 at RFK STADIUM.

Atlanta jumped out to the early lead in the first inning when they scored 4
runs on 3 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Jeff Francoeur who
silenced the stadium when he lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his
12th of the season). Washington threatened in the 9th but Atlanta was able
to put down the rally.

Chuck James(8-13) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 5 innings. Rafael Soriano
gained credit for his 15th save. Matt Chico(9-8) absorbed the loss. He got
hit pretty hard, allowing 7 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 1/3 innings.
