Josh Beckett comes out the winner in a duel between the majors only 20 game winners, but it didn't always look like it was going to turn out that way. Beckett and Santana were both throwing up goose eggs through the first 3 innings, but the Twins strike first in the 4th with doubles from Jason Kubel and Justin Morneau. The Twins add another in the 6th on a Morneau single following a Joe Mauer double. Meanwhile, Santana was continuing to mow them down. The Red Sox missed a golden opportunity in the 6th when they loaded the bases with one out for Manny Ramirez, but Manny strikes out and then Mike Lowell flies out to end the inning.

Finally in the 7th, the Red Sox get something going with a leadoff double from JD Drew. Jason Varitek is up next, and he hits it deep for a 2 run game tying home run over the Green Monster! If that wasn't enough, Julio Lugo gives the Sox the lead 2 batters later with a solo shot. Okajima in the 8th and Papelbon in the 9th, and the game one win belongs to the Red Sox!
