| The Nationals finally come up victorious in a marathon 20 inning contest vs. the Giants. The Nats tied the score at 2 in the 8th with back to back doubles from Felipe Lopez and Ryan Zimmerman, then neither team scored for 11 innings. Finally in the 20th, Ryan Church walked and then advanced to 3rd on a suprise single from pitcher Chris Schroder (who was getting pulled for the next inning, but there were no bats left on the bench). With Schroder on first and Church on third, Ronnie Belliard singled up the middle to score Church with the winning run. |

One run was the difference at RFK STADIUM as the Washington Nationals defeated
the San Francisco Giants in 20 innings 3 to 2.
The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. Washington ended up
winning it in the 20th inning. After an out was recorded, Ryan Church drew a
walk. One out later, Chris Schroder stepped up to the plate and he lined a
one-base hit. Ronnie Belliard then lashed a single making Washington the
victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Washington managed 16 hits
in their victory.
The winning pitcher was Schroder(4-2) who allowed no runs in 4 innings. Steve
Kline(2-4) was the loser in relief. He gave up 3 hits and 2 walks in 2 and
2/3 innings.
