| After losing by scores of 11-1 and 9-1 in the first 2 games of the series, the Yankees avoid the series sweep with a big win of their own. They came out swinging (5 runs in the first 2 innings) and never looked back. Robinson Cano was a homer shy of the cycle, and Bobby Abreu set the tone early with a 3 run homer in the 1st. The lone blemish on Chien-Ming Wang's 16th win was a 5th inning home run by Jason Varitek, his 17th of the year. |

WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Melky Cabrera robbed David Ortiz of a Homerun!
Chien-Ming Wang delivered 9 solid innings and right fielder Bobby Abreu went
deep and had 4 RBI at Yankee Stadium as the New York (AL) Yankees beat the
Boston Red Sox by the count of 9 to 2.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Abreu. He clubbed a three-run home run (his 15th of the season)
in the 1st inning and laced a base-knock knocking in a run in the 7th inning.
New York (AL) rapped out 11 hits for the afternoon.
The win was credited to Wang(16-5) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs.
Curt Schilling(11-5) was tagged with the loss. 'He came out with good
stuff,' Joe Torre said about Wang. 'He threw the ball good from the first
pitch on.'
