| Ladies and gentlemen, your 2007 American League East champions, the Boston Red Sox! The Red Sox win their 100th game of the season and become the first team to ever clinch a division in August with another beating of the Yankees. You may ask, what could be better than beating up the Yankees in Yankee Stadium to clinch the division in August? Well, the only way it could be better is if the Yankees losing pitcher in the game is the Texas Con Man, who gets knocked around for 12 hits and 7 runs in 7 2/3 innings of work. He also gave up 3 home runs. I'm not sure why he was left in so long, probably because the Yankees bullpen sucks too. Multi-hit games for the top 6 hitters in the Red Sox lineup, and Coco Crisp is the only starter to not get a hit. Josh Beckett easily bests his fellow Texan, pitching 8 shutout innings before giving way to Hideki Okajima. Okajima gives up the Yankees' only run to another Hideki, Mr. Matsui. One note: I was a bit premature in stating that the Red Sox had clinched at least a tie for the division lead after yesterday's win. I forgot about the Orioles, who were in a tie with the Yankees after a win yesterday but had played 2 less games. Fortunately, the Orioles lost as well today, which keeps them tied for 2nd but gives the Red Sox the division title. |

Red Sox beat the New York (AL) Yankees 9 to 1.
Boston promptly took the lead in their half of the first when they scored 2
