| The Nationals had a 9-1 lead at one point in this game, but it turned into a nailbiter after the Rockies put up 5 runs in the 7th. Saul Rivera was completely ineffective out of the Nats pen, starting the 7th by allowing a double, HBP, single, walk, and finally a grand slam home run to Brad Hawpe before being pulled. Jon Rauch would fare much better, getting the next 6 batters out. Ray King would walk Todd Helton to start the 9th, but Chad Cordero would come in and get the final 3 outs for his 29th save. Austin Kearns had a 3 for 4 day, while both Felipe Lopez and Ryan Church had 3 RBI. |

Shortstop Felipe Lopez had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Washington Nationals
beat the Colorado Rockies by a score of 9 to 8.
Joel Hanrahan(3-1) pitched well enough to earn the win. He went 6 innings
allowing 9 hits and 1 walk. Hanrahan whiffed an impressive total of 7
Colorado batters. Both teams totaled 12 hits on the afternoon.
Chad Cordero recorded the save, his 29th. Elmer Dessens(3-2) took the loss.
His biggest problem was control as he allowed 5 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.
'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Hanrahan said,
'this was one of those times.'
