The Red Sox come out victorious in a game that was 6 innings longer than it should have been thanks to Eric Gagne. The Sox had a 3-2 lead going into the 9th thanks to Josh Beckett, who handed the ball over to Gagne for the 9th because Jonathan Papelbon had worked the last 2 games. Gagne proceeds to walk the next 3 batters, and although Hideki Okajima would enter and get 3 straight outs, one is a sac fly to tie the game. Both teams remain scoreless until the 15th, when Dustin Pedroia doubles with one out, is advanced to third on a Julio Lugo hit and run ground out, then scores on a passed ball. Papelbon ends up entering the game after all and pitches a perfect inning for his 39th save. Manny Delcarmen gets the win in relief. Unfortunately, this was the first game of a doubleheader so the bullpen will be worn out for the nightcap. Fortunately, so will the White Sox 'pen - they contributed 9 innings amongst 7 different hurlers.

Josh Beckett went 8 strong innings as the Boston Red Sox topped the Chicago
(AL) White Sox in 15 innings by a score of 4 to 3 at US Cellular Field.

Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Boston won it in
the 15th inning. After an out was recorded, Dustin Pedroia doubled. One out
later, Ehren Wassermann came up and he threw a high and inside pitch that got
by the catcher; it was ruled a passed ball scoring the run. Boston out-hit
Chicago (AL) for the game, 9 hits to 5.

The victory went to Manny Delcarmen(3-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
Delcarmen got help from Jonathan Papelbon who was credited with his 39th
save. Matt Thornton(5-4) was the loser in relief. It was a tough loss for
him as he did not allow an earned run in his 2 and 1/3 innings of work.
