| The Nationals hold off the Mets for the 7-6 win. This gives the Nats a 2-1 series win, and allows them to keep a 3 1/2 game lead in the division. The Nats were cruising along with a 5-1 lead when Shawn Hill started to tire in the 6th. The Mets would score 4 runs in the inning, 2 before Hill left and 2 on a Lastings Milledge single allowed by Ray King, although all 4 are charged to Hill. The Nats would come back though with 2 in the bottom of the 7th, with D'Angelo Jimenez and Dmitri Young getting the RBI's on singles. The Mets come back with one off Jon Rauch in the top of the 8th, but Chad Cordero nails down the 9th for his 26th save. |

WEB GEMS- Bot 2nd: Carlos Beltran robbed Wily Mo Pena of a Homerun!
The Washington Nationals nipped the New York (NL) Mets 7 to 6 at RFK STADIUM
in a hard fought contest.
Washington took the lead for keeps in the 7th inning when they tallied 2 runs
on 4 hits. New York (NL) made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable
to push the needed runs across.
Chris Schroder(3-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing
no runs. Chad Cordero earned the save, his 26th. Aaron Heilman(4-3) was the
losing pitcher in relief.
Manny Acta was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only we
could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not
going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'
