The Red Sox stave off an attempted 9th inning comeback from the Angels and stay perfect (5-0) on their current west coast swing. This was a game of big innings, as each team scored 3 or more runs in an inning twice in the game. The Sox got solo homers from 2 part time players - Doug Mirabelli and Wily Mo Pena. Mirabelli also contributed an RBI single, which is noteworthy because it is only the 2nd time all year that he has knocked in a run on something other than a home run. He has 7 homers and 12 RBI on the season: 5 solo homers, one 2 run shot, and one 3 run shot to total 10 RBI when Dougie goes deep.

Mirabelli's battery mate Tim Wakefield goes 6 for his 14th win of the year. This keeps him on a 20 win pace for the season. Jonathan Papelbon gets the 3rd out in the 9th for his 33rd save, a true save because the tying run was at the plate due to Manny Delcarmen's struggles.

Catcher Doug Mirabelli slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Boston Red Sox
outscored the ice-cold Los Angeles(AL) Angels 8 to 6.

Boston tallied 4 runs in the top of the 3rd inning when they had 4 base hits.
The highlight belonged to Manny Ramirez who quieted the crowd when he lined a
single which was good for two runs. Boston finished with 10 hits in the
victory.

The win was credited to Tim Wakefield(14-5) who went 6 innings allowing 3
runs. Wakefield got relief help from Jonathan Papelbon who gained credit for
his 33rd save. Joe Saunders(3-4) suffered the loss.
