| The Nationals cut the Mets division lead to 2 games after a nail-biting 11 inning win. In the first, the Nats got 2 singles but failed to score, while the Mets had a single with the runner erased on a double play. Those would be the only hits by either team until the 8th inning, as Mike Bacsik and Jorge Sosa were putting up dueling goose eggs. The Nats broke through in the 8th when Bacsik himself walked, was replaced on a fielder's choice by Felipe Lopez, and Lopez scored on Ronnie Belliard's double. Unfortunately, the Mets would answer in the bottom of the inning with 2 doubles and a single to score a run and chase Bacsik from the game. Saul Rivera enters with runners on 1st and 3rd, but induces a ground ball which turns into an out on the lead runner at the plate. Rivera then struck out the next 2 batters to preserve the 1-1 tie. That would hold until the 11th, when Belliard got a one out single and was knocked in when Ryan Zimmerman planted one in the seats. Chad Cordero gave up a homer to Lastings Milledge in the bottom of the inning followed by a Shawn Green double, but Green would be stranded there and Cordero earned his 19th save. |
