| The Nationals drop below .500 for the first time this season after a heartbreaking loss in 13 innings in Atlanta. The Nats were down by a score of 4-1, but came back with 3 in the top of the 7th on 3 singles and 2 walks. Both teams held serve until the 13th, when the Braves got a double from Jarrod Saltalamacchia and a single from Kelly Johnson off a tired Saul Rivera. I brought it embattered closer Chad Cordero, who quickly gave up a single to Yunel Escobar to give the Braves the win. One good sign for the Nats: Austin Kearns went 2 for 6 with a home run and a leadoff single in the 10th. Kearns has been in a horrific slump, and is hitting just .178 for the month of June. He and Ryan Church are going to have to hit if the offense is going to carry the decidedly weak starting pitching for the team. |
