The Red Sox finish interleague play with an impressive 15-3 record after beating the Padres to sweep their 3 game series. This one looked like it might be another shutout like the first 2 games in the series, but the Padres finally scored in the 6th. Still, 2 runs allowed over 8 innings was good enough for Josh Beckett to earn his league-leading 12th win. Hideki Okajima got the call in the 9th and got the save despite giving up a bomb to Adrian Gonzalez.

The Red Sox scored 2 runs each in the 1st and 5th innings, both times the same way - a David Ortiz homer following an Alex Cora single. Cora went 3 for 5 in a rare start to spell Dustin Pedroia. JD Drew went 2 for 3 to continue his recent hot streak; he is hitting .387 for the month of June.

David Ortiz smacked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Petco Park where the Boston
Red Sox beat the San Diego Padres by the score of 4 to 3.

Ortiz led the offense for Boston. He smashed a two-run homer in the 1st
inning, cracked a two-run shot (his 17th of the season) in the 5th inning and
lined a base-hit in the 8th inning. San Diego threatened in the 9th but
Boston was able to put down the rally.

The victory was credited to Josh Beckett(12-0) who went 8 innings, allowing 2
runs. Hideki Okajima got the save, his 2nd. Jake Peavy(8-5) absorbed the
loss.

Boston continued their winning ways, with their streak now at 6 games and
counting.
