| The Sox and Padres have another pitchers duel, this time between Tim Wakefield and Chris Young. The Sox got on the board first when JD Drew tripled in the 4th, then scored on a Mike Lowell sac fly. The Sox would score again in the 6th on 3 straight singles from Manny, Drew, and Lowell. Meanwhile, Wake was putting them down for 8 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits but 5 walks. At Petco Park, the San Diego faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's
duel. Tim Wakefield(8-4) finally bested his San Diego counterpart, Chris
Young(6-5), by the score of 2 to 0.
San Diego was unable to recover after Boston went ahead in the top of the 4th
inning scoring a single run. J.D. Drew tripled. Mike Lowell next to the
plate and he hit a deep fly scoring the run. Jonathan Papelbon was great in
relief and recorded his 22nd save.
Young took the loss. He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 6 hits and
2 walks.
