The Nationals continue to limp their way through interleague play, this team lasting 13 innings before falling to the Tigers by a score of 4 to 3. The Nats had come back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game at 3 in the 8th on a Ryan Zimmerman solo shot, then matched zeros with the Tigers until the 13th. With Chad Cordero on the mound, Brandon Inge and Mike Rabelo get consecutive singles to lead it off. Cordero then got the next 2 outs, but Placido Polanco singled to load the bases. Gary Sheffield grounded to 1st with what should have been the third out, but Tony Batista bobbled it and allowed Sheffield to reach base and advance all 3 runners one base. The single run would be enough to win it, as the Nats only managed a 2 out single in the bottom of the 13th off Todd Jones, who earned the save.
