The Red Sox were swinging for the fences in this one while the Indians were swinging at air. Josh Beckett returns from a DL stint with another stellar performance, striking out 14 Indians. Beckett has made 9 starts this season, and today earned his 9th win. The Sox were powered by 2 home runs by Jason Varitek, another one from Kevin Youkilis, a 2-RBI triple from JD Drew, and good days from the table setters (Pedroia and Crisp) at the top of the order.

Old friend Trot Nixon went 3 for 4 with a triple for the Indians in the loss.

Josh Beckett reeled off a total of 14 strikeouts and catcher Jason Varitek
blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox beat
the Cleveland Indians by the count of 8 to 2.

Varitek enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He smashed a bases-empty
'big-fly' in the 2nd inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 6th of the
season) in the 3rd inning. Boston ended up with 12 hits for the game while
Cleveland had 7.

Beckett(9-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 2
runs. Jeremy Sowers(3-6) was the loser. He served up 3 gopher balls in 5 and
2/3 innings.

'Everything felt great' Beckett said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could
throw it by everybody tonight.'
