| Hideki Okajima played the role of "win burglar" in this eventual 2-1 win over the Indians. Curt Schilling allowed just 2 hits through the first 7 innings, but was already over 100 pitches when he started the 8th by allowing a double to Ryan Garko. Okajima enters with the 1-0 lead and quicky induces a ground out for the first out of the inning, but then hits Grady Sizemore to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Casey Blake can't come through and pops out, but Travis Hafner gets the RBI single to tie the game. Victor Martinez grounds out with runners on 2nd and 3rd to end the inning. In the bottom of the 8th, Coco Crisp leads off by striking out before Kevin Youkilis reaches 1st on an error by Blake. A Manny walk sends Youk to 2nd, and JD Drew comes through with a rare clutch hit to score Youk with the go-ahead run. Mike Lowell is up next, but he can't continue the rally and grounds into a double play. After re-establishing the one run lead, the Sox bring in Paps for the 9th and it's academic at that point as he earns his 16th save. |

Right fielder J.D. Drew had 3 base hits as the Boston Red Sox outscored the
Cleveland Indians 2 to 1.
The game was won by Boston with a run in the 8th inning. After an out was
recorded, Kevin Youkilis reached on an error. Manny Ramirez stepped up next
and he drew a walk. Drew then lined a base-hit scoring the run. Jonathan
Papelbon relieved and was untouched by Cleveland as he recorded the save, his
16th.
Hideki Okajima(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Aaron
Fultz(2-2) was hit with the loss in relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he
did not allow an earned run in his 2 and 1/3 innings of work.
