What a wild ninth inning in this one! The Nats staked a 2-0 early lead that was erased by a Brandon Phillips 2-run homer in the 4th, then the Reds took the lead on a Ken Griffey Jr. homer in the 6th and added to their lead with an Adam Dunn solo shot in the 8th. That brings us to the 9th, which the Nats entered down by a 4-2 score.

Former Nat Mike Stanton was on the mound. He entered in the 8th to face lefty Robert Fick when the Nats had runners on 1st and 2nd, and got the out. The pitcher was due up first, so I pinch hit with Ronnie Belliard, but he grounded out. Felipe Lopez was up next and he doubled. Cristian Guzman singled to score Lopez, which made it a one-run deficit and brought Jared Burton from the 'pen. Ryan Zimmerman lined out to 2nd, and the Nats are down to their last out. Ryan Langerhans extends the rally by hitting a single and moving Guzman to 2nd. Former Red Austin Kearns was up next, and he singled in the tying run! Ryan Church was intentionally walked to load the bases, and the Reds went to the bullpen again for Brad Salmon to face Brian Schneider. Salmon uncorks a wild pitch, scoring the go-ahead run! Schneider is then intentionally walked to re-load the bases, but Fick grounds out to end the Nats half of the inning.

Not to be outdone, the Reds rally in the bottom of the inning off closer Chad Cordero. Ryan Freel walks to lead things off, then Juan Castro bunts to advance Freel to 2nd. With 1st open, I intentionally walk Griffey Jr. Cordero then walks Brandon Phillips as well to load the bases for Jeff Conine with just one out. Conine grounds to short, and Lopez fires the ball home for the 2nd out and then Schneider throws to 1st for the game ending double play!

The Nats salvage a series split with the Reds and maintain a 1st place tie in the NL East with the Mets. Jesus Colome gets the win, while Cordero gets his 11th save despite the 3 walks in the inning.

In a dramatic ending the Washington Nationals staged a comeback and held on to
win over the Cincinnati Reds by the count of 5 to 4.

Washington had the game winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 4
hits. After an out was recorded, Felipe Lopez got things rolling when he
doubled. Cristian Guzman was next and he lined a one-base hit resulting in a
run. One out later, Ryan Langerhans stepped in and he smacked a single.
Austin Kearns was up next and he stroked a single plating another run.
Kearns took second on the throw. Ryan Church stepped into the box and was
walked intentionally to load the bases. Brad Salmon then unleashed a wild
pitch scoring the final run of the inning. Washington ended up with 14 hits
for the game while Cincinnati had 11.

The win went to Jesus Colome(4-3) who allowed 1 run in 1 and 1/3 innings. Chad
Cordero earned his 11th save. Jared Burton(0-2) was charged with the loss in
relief. He surrendered 1 run and 2 hits in 1/3 of an inning.

Pete Mackanin was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. 'I'm not in
the mood for questions, but I'm sure Manny Acta will be glad to talk about
the game as long as you have questions to ask.'
