| The Nationals lose a close one in Cincinnati when the Reds get 2 runs off Saul Rivera in the 8th. This one looked like it was going to be all Reds early, as they get 5 runs in the 3rd off Nats starter Jason Simontacchi. Instead, the Nats claw back with 2 runs in the 4th, 1 in the 5th, and 2 in the 6th. The longball was a big part of this game as the Reds get a 3 run shot from Scott Hatteberg and a 2 run shot from Adam Dunn in their 5 run innings, while the Nats got solo shots from Ryan Zimmerman and Austin Kearns in the 4th and a 2 run shot from Ryan Church in the 6th. Rivera hit Ryan Freel and walked Hatteberg with 2 outs in the 8th, then allowed a single to Ken Griffey Jr. to break the tie and a double to Brandon Phillips to make it 7-5 Reds. The Nats would get one back in the 9th, but Ryan Church would line out with runners on 1st and 2nd to end the game. |
