| The Nats can't capture that recent comeback magic in this one, and instead fall to the Reds by a 2-1 score. They loaded the bases in the 9th for recent hero Ryan Zimmerman, but he hit a fly ball to center field to end the game. The deciding run for the Reds ends up being a 6th inning home run by Ken Griffey off Nats starter Matt Chico, who took the loss. |

16,605 fans were treated to a fine game at Great American Bpk as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Cincinnati Reds won by the
slimmest of margins, 2 to 1.
In the bottom of the 6th inning Cincinnati scored 1 run. Ken Griffey Jr hit a
bases-empty home run (his 7th of the season). Washington had a chance to
come back in the 9th but they came up short.
The win went to David Weathers(1-3) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Jared
Burton gained credit for his 1st save. Matt Chico(6-2) was tagged with the
loss.
Pete Mackanin was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only
we could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not
going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'
