The Red Sox cruise to a relatively easy victory over their bitter division rivals. Tim Wakefield allowed just one hit through 5, but tired quickly in the 6th and needed JC Romero to bail him out of a bases loaded jam. Romero walked in a run, but then got the 3rd out and got 2 more outs in the 7th before giving way to Hideki Okajima, who got 4 outs and then let Papelbon get the 3 remaining outs in the 9th. Meanwhile, the Sox offense got all the runs they would need on a bases-clearing triple in the 2nd by Alex Cora. They would get 3 more in the 8th when Youk would lead off with a walk, followed by a Big Papi blast and a Manny shot. Ortiz' homer was especially sweet, because it was to deep center and came on a split card based on the "poor" fielding of Yankees CF Johnny Damon.
