| An embarassing loss for the Nationals, as Chad Cordero has his 2nd straight horrible outing. While yesterday's performance still earned him a save, this one results in a blown save and a loss. It started out well for the Nationals, getting 4 runs in the 2nd off 3 hits and 2 walks while chasing Marlins starter Anibal Sanchez from the game. The Marlins would strike back in the 5th, chasing Nats starter Matt Chico from the game on 3 walks and 2 hits. Unfortunately, Levale Speigner was no relief and allowed back-to-back doubles upon entering the game to give the Marlins the one run lead. Still, the Nats would tie the game on a Dmitri Young solo homer in the 7th and take the lead in the 8th on a sac fly, also by Young. So with the score at 8-7, Cordero would enter in the 9th to try to get the save. He would walk Hanley Ramirez, then uncork a wild pitch to send Ramirez to 2nd. Dan Uggla would also walk, after which Cordero unleashed ANOTHER wild pitch to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Aaron Boone would mercifully strike out, so I intentionally walk Josh Willingham and hope that Joe Borchard grounds into a double play. Instead, Cordero walks Borchard to push the tying run across. I pull the plug on him, but Jon Rauch allows a single to Cody Ross, who picks up his 3rd RBI of the day when Uggla crosses the plate with the winning run. |

Center fielder Cody Ross hit a homerun and had 3 RBI at Dolphins Stadium as
the Florida Marlins came back dramatically to top the Washington Nationals by
the score of 9 to 8.
Florida had the game winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs. Hanley
Ramirez opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Chad Cordero then
unleashed a wild pitch. Dan Uggla then drew a walk. Cordero then threw a
wild pitch. Aaron Boone got his chance to keep things going, but he went
down on strikes. Josh Willingham kept the inning going and was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Joe Borchard was next and he drew a walk
which scored a run. Ross then delivered a single making Florida the victor
and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Florida totaled 9 hits on the
night.
The winning pitcher was Kevin Gregg(2-1) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Cordero(0-2) was charged with the loss in relief. His ERA ballooned from
3.86 to 6.14 as he allowed 2 runs in 1/3 of an inning.
'What a game!,' Gregg said afterward. 'When we won it I almost couldn't
believe it!'
