| I was browsing through the game stories for the day, and imagine my surprise when I see that Carl Pavano of the Yankees pitched a perfect game! This is the 1st ever perfect game in my now 7 years of Strat-O-Matic computer replays. It's especially surprising from Pavano, who allowed 7 hits and 7 runs in 4 innings on opening day and who started just 2 games in the real 2007 season due to an elbow injury that led to Tommy John surgery. What this means is that Pavano's perfect game will be his last start of my 2007 replay! Trivia: although he never played for the Red Sox, Pavano is a key figure in the recent history of both the Red Sox and Expos/Nationals. Why? Answer: he was sent to the Expos along with Tony Armas Jr. and a boatload of cash for Pedro Martinez! |

Perfection was achieved in Minnesota as Carl Pavano(1-1) mesmerized the crowd
while retiring every Minnesota Twins batter, resulting in a 6 to nothing
victory.
Although disappointed to see the hometown team lose, the fans certainly were
appropriately impressed with the dominating, no-hit performance of Pavano.
The tension was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Pavano appeared
oblivious himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th.
Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the
mound. After the 2nd inning, neither team was able to score.
Sidney Ponson(0-1) was tagged with the loss. 'You probably have a better
chance of winning the lottery than this happening,' said Pavano, 'I don't
expect it to sink in for awhile,' he said. 'I'm numb right now, I'm
overwhelmed.'
