In a two run game the Washington Nationals got by the Arizona Diamondbacks by
the score of 3 to 1.
Washington scored the decisive runs in a big 8th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Felipe Lopez initiated the
scoring spurt when he laced a base-knock. One out later, Ryan Zimmerman
stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Austin Kearns then laced a
base-hit resulting in a run. Dmitri Young followed and he doubled scoring
the final run of the inning. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel
until the 6th inning.
The victory went to Micah Bowie(1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
Bowie got help from Chad Cordero who was credited with his 2nd save. Doug
Slaten(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief. He pitched 2/3 of an inning
allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.
