| Josh Beckett gets the win for the Red Sox in their 2007 home opener. Beckett allows a run in the 2nd when Raul Ibanez scores on a sac fly after hitting a leadoff double. The Sox come back with 3 in the bottom of the 3rd, with the key hits being a 2-out hit and run single by Julio Lugo, an RBI double by Kevin Youkilis, and a Manny Ramirez single scoring 2 runs after David Ortiz was intentionally walked to load the bases. The Sox would get another run in the 5th and 2 in the 6th, including a Jason Varitek solo homer. Beckett pitches 7 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, no walks, and 6 K's. Mike Timlin made his first appearance off the DL in the 8th, allowing a run after Ichiro scores on a sac fly following a triple. The 9th was an adventure for the Sox bullpen - JC Romero starts out the inning but allows a walk and a single, leading to Joel Pineiro who gets 2 quick outs but then allows a single to Yuniesky Betancourt which loads the bases and brings the tying run to the plate in Jose Lopez. Time for Papelbon to get down to business, and he strikes out Lopez to end the game and earn his 5th save. |

The Boston Red Sox toppled the Seattle Mariners by a 7 to 3 score at Fenway
Park.
Boston tallied 3 runs in the 3rd inning with the help of 3 hits. The crucial
at-bat was provided by Manny Ramirez who thrilled the crowd when he laced a
base-knock which was good for two runs. Boston rapped out 11 hits for the
afternoon.
Josh Beckett(2-0) went 7 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Beckett got
relief help from Jonathan Papelbon who gained credit for his 5th save. Jeff
Weaver(0-1) took the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 8
hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.
